Exam photo & signature limits — every row with its source

These bands are compiled from recent official notifications. Limits change between notifications — the instruction page of the exact form you are filling is always the final authority. Compiled: 2026-10-27.

~200x230 px
10–20 KB, JPG
~140x60 px
ssc.gov.in
Recent SSC notifications use live webcam/phone photo capture for many posts — if yours does, use the fallback JPG band only when a file upload is actually asked. About 4.0 x 2.0 cm (older notices mentioned 6.0 x 2.0 cm). Sign on plain white paper, tight crop, dark pen.
IBPS (PO / Clerk / RRB / SO) 20–50 KB, JPG
~200x230 px
10–20 KB, JPG
~140x60 px
ibps.in
Plain light background, face centred, no cap or dark glasses. Sign on white paper with dark ink; crop tight around the signature only.
RRB (NTPC / Group D / ALP) 15–40 KB, JPG
~200x230 px
10–20 KB, JPG
~140x60 px
rrbapply.gov.in
Bands differ between RRB notifications — read your exact advertisement. Scanned signature, white background, no surrounding paper visible.
UPSC (CSE / IES / CAPF) 20–50 KB, JPG
~200x257 px
10–20 KB, JPG
~140x60 px
upsc.gov.in
Photo roughly 3.5 x 4.5 cm ratio; recent e-photo uploads ask for a recent colour photo. Roughly 3.5 x 1.5 cm ratio; scan at high contrast so ink stays crisp.

How to use this database

Find your exam's row, note the KB band and pixel values, then open the Photo Resizer or Signature Resizer — their presets read this same data file, so one update refreshes every tool at once. Before uploading, run the Pre-flight Checker, which applies these very rules and explains each verdict in plain words with an auto-fix.

Why the numbers are ranges, not magic digits

Portals express limits as bands ("20 KB to 50 KB"), and byte rounding differs between systems — a file manager's "50KB" can exceed a portal's 50,000-byte cap. A safe middle inside the band works on both sides of the check; a single copied "magic number" often sits exactly on the edge where rounding bites.

Keeping this page honest

When a notification changes a limit, this table and the date above are updated together. If a live form disagrees with this table, the live form is right — tell us on the contact page and we will re-verify against the linked source.

Common questions

Are these limits official?
They are compiled from recent official notifications, with the official source linked per exam. Always verify against the exact notification you are applying under — limits can change per recruitment.
SSC photo section says "live capture". What does that mean?
Many recent SSC notifications capture your photo live via webcam or phone during the form, instead of accepting an uploaded file. If yours does, follow the form's flow; the 20–50 KB band applies when a file upload is asked.
My exam is not listed.
The band structure is usually similar (20–50 KB photos, 10–20 KB signatures) — but read your notification's instruction page and type the numbers manually into the resizers.
Do the tools read these numbers automatically?
Yes — the resizer presets and the Pre-flight Checker read this same data file, so one update refreshes every tool at once.
