Protect PDF
Password protect PDF files online for free. Encrypt confidential documents to prevent unauthorized opening, copying, or printing.
Information
Set an open password on a PDF
Type a password, confirm it, and the tool writes an encrypted copy that asks for the password at open time.
Standard PDF encryption
The file uses the encryption every PDF reader understands — Adobe Reader, browser viewers and phone apps all prompt correctly.
Password and file stay local
Both are handled inside the tab; nothing about the document or the password is transmitted or stored.
Share through a second channel
Send the PDF by email and the password by message. Anyone who sees only one of the two gets nothing.
Two minutes, no printer
Protecting an identity proof used to mean scanning and re-printing routines; now it is a password box and a save click.
Recipients need no special app
Encrypted PDFs open in the standard readers people already have; the password prompt appears automatically.
When to password-protect a PDF with Vytra Protect
You frequently need to email documents that should not be readable by anyone who intercepts or forwards the message — Aadhaar and PAN copies, bank statements, salary slips, marksheets and signed declarations. Vytra Protect adds an open password to the PDF using standard encryption, entirely in your browser: the file and the password never reach a server. Anyone opening the file must type the password you chose.
Protection encrypts the whole file, not just the opening screen: without the password the content cannot be selected, copied or printed by ordinary readers, and the encryption is standard PDF security that any reader — phone, laptop, Adobe Reader, browser viewers — understands. Give each document type a different password (one for identity proofs, one for financial papers), and keep the original unprotected copy on your device for portals that reject encrypted uploads.
Common problems and how to fix them
- Choose a strong password — mix letters, numbers and a symbol, and do not reuse your portal or email password.
- Share the password separately — send it by message or call, not in the same email as the file.
- You cannot recover a forgotten password — Vytra does not store it; keep the record in a password manager.
- Some portals reject encrypted uploads — if the form refuses the file, submit the unprotected version to that portal instead.
A quick example
A landlord asks for your PAN and address proof. Protect the combined PDF with a password, send the password separately, and the documents stay private even if the email is forwarded.
What the password honestly protects against: casual disclosure — a forwarded email, a shared laptop, a phone left with someone. It is not a substitute for asking whether the receiver genuinely needs the document before you send it.
